Advanced robotics course at ORSI

ESRU.be co-organizes an Advanced robotics course every year for last year residents. The course, together with the Dutch group of urology residents, will take place during the first week of February 2020 at ORSI in Melle.

Monday February 3rd: SYSTEM OVERVIEW AND INSERVICE

  • Location: Orsi academy, proefhoevestraat 12, 9090 Melle
  • Arrival at ORSI: welcome coffee at 8.30h, start at 9h00
  • Guidance by: Prof Dr H Beerlage; Dr Y Raskin
  • Program:

9h00 – 9h15: Introduction of the training program
9h15 – 12h00: System overview of the Da Vinci Xi and X; Docking, port placement…
12h00 - 12h30: Lunch
12h30 – 13h30: Simulator exercises and tests of the ERUS Curriculum
13h15 – 14h15: Simulation training and docking exercises
14h30 - 16h00: Exercises on the Pelvic Model & suturing pad, vesico-urethral anastomosis kit
16h00 – 18h00: Venezuelan Chicken model  & vesico-urethral anastomosis exercises

 

Tuesday February 4th and Thursday February 6th CANINE CADAVER LAB (half the group)

  • Location: Orsi academy, proefhoevestraat 12, 9090 Melle
  • Pick-up: Hotel Lobby at 8h15; ORSI at 8h30
  • Program: all steps of the prostatectomy on a canine cadaver
  • Guidance by: 
    - Tuesday: Dr M Naudin; Dr J Van Roermund 
    - Thursday: Dr T Adams; Dr Ch Assenmacher (afternoon); Dr H Van der Poel

Tuesday February 4th and Thursday February 6th: LIVE CASE OBSERVATIONS (half the group)

  • Location: OLV hospital Aalst, Moorselbaan 164, 9300 Aalst.
  • Pick-up: Hotel Lobby at 7h15; OLV Aalst at 7h45
  • Surgeons: Dr Mottrie, dr. De Naeyer
  • Program:

Live case observations with dual bay console. Procedures and techniques that will be used during the training week are demonstrated. Logistical organization of the surgery room is highlighted.
Surgery program dependent on planning hospital. Min 4 procedures.

 

Wednesday February 5th: WET LAB ON PORCINE MODEL

  • Location: Orsi academy, proefhoevestraat 12, 9090 Melle
  • Pick-up: Hotel Lobby at 8h15; ORSI at 8h30
  • Guidance by: Dr C Chatzopoulos ; Dr S Puliatti ; Dr J Van Roermund
  • Program: all steps of the prostatectomy on an anesthetized pig model.

 

Friday February 7th: WET LAB ON PORCINE MODEL

  • Location: Orsi academy, proefhoevestraat 12, 9090 Melle
  • Pick-up: Hotel Lobby at 8h15; ORSI at 8h30
  • Guidance by: Dr J Besien (morning); Dr G De Naeyer (afternoon); Dr D Ost; Dr H Van der Poel
  • Program: all steps of the prostatectomy on an anesthetized pig model.
  • End of the course at 16h00

Registration

The following requirements need to be fulfilled:

  1. A document signed by your University supervisor, stating that you are in your last year of residency (from a Belgian university).
  2. A letter of recommendation by one of your former or current (onco/robot) supervisors.
  3. A statement by the person who will be your supervisor after the course, which confirms that you will have access to robotic surgery in the near future (ideally you should be able to take part in at least 9 robotic procedures in the next 3 months). We will ask you to log these procedures.
  4. A certificate or other proof that you attended at least one practical course in robotic surgery (such as ESRU Starter’s package, ESU/ERUS Hand-on training in Robotic surgery, WRSE24, other).
  5. A letter of motivation that explains why you apply for this course.
  6. Successful completion of the online training module for the Da Vinci Xi (attach certificate). Link: https://www.davincisurgerycommunity.com/Clinical/Urology?tab1=CL

Deadline for application is 31st of August. Please send your application including all attachments by mail.

The BLUG committee will be responsible for the selection process. We will negotiate as many places for Belgian residents as possible, however this will be still limited.

You will be notified by the end of October.

Personal financial contribution of 500 euro per participant will be asked. This is including a faculty dinner and accommodation in Ghent for participants who require this.
